The real challenge, however, was to transform a house only six metres wide into a fully functional family home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open-plan living space and a studio on the gallery. What began as a major renovation ultimately became an almost entirely new house.
The concept is built on the contrast between minimalist architecture and authentic materials. Light poured and textured surfaces, concealed door frames, a simple staircase and generous glazing allow the space and the changing qualities of natural light to take centre stage.

Defining features include a perforated steel balustrade, a patinated metal fireplace surround and iconic designer lighting.
The kitchen island and bench form the functional heart of the living area while subtly referencing the traditional furniture of Moravian rural houses. Both pieces are crafted from veneer sliced from one-hundred-year-old oak beams.
Contemporary architecture is complemented by inherited family furniture and subtle folkloric motifs that give the interior its own identity without becoming nostalgic. A modular sofa accessible from every side and the long wooden bench naturally organise the shared living space, while the gallery studio and the owner’s bedroom with its private bathroom create a quiet retreat beneath the roof.
Original Malované Wallpapers are not used as conventional wallpaper. Instead, they become large-format artworks integrated into the architecture of the interior.
The project demonstrates that even a very narrow plot does not have to limit the quality of living. Thoughtful spatial planning, natural light and honest materials create a generous interior that feels calm, contemporary and deeply connected to both its location and the family’s history.
The renovation was selected for a two-part transformation in the Czech Television series Bydlet jako (Living Like), featured in the episodes Living with Music and Living in Folk Costume. The project was later also published by iDNES Bydlení.
